The Story Behind the Name

The Danish Multiple Sclerosis Society raised the funds to build Dronningens Ferieby. Dronningens Ferieby was inaugurated in July 1990 and is named after the society’s patron, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe. Queen Margrethe has visited the holiday village on several occasions.

A Unique Holiday Spot

Dronningens Ferieby was Europe’s first accessible holiday resort at the time and became very well-known. Accessibility is a focus throughout the terrain and in the shared facilities. In the 44 homes, every detail is thoughtfully designed to make all tasks from morning to night as easy as possible. It’s not only the person with a disability who should be able to relax and enjoy the holiday – easy days together are also a source of joy and quality of life for family and friends.

Special Attention to Art

Dronningens Ferieby represents high-quality architecture. During its construction, emphasis was placed on creating a beautiful interaction between nature and culture. In this context, the Danish Arts Foundation contributed to the artistic decoration of the communal building and the 44 holiday homes.

17 Nordic artists were commissioned to decorate the holiday village, and in 1990, all the artists visited the village to experience the area, the nature, and the holiday homes before starting their work. This resulted in 50 oil paintings, 90 graphic works, and 3 sculptures.
